Story

Get to Know Us

Founded in 2019, by Dr. Ramesh Agarwalla, a distinguished ophthalmologist with over four decades of dedicated service,

Drishti Foundation emerged from a simple yet powerful vision:

that everyone deserves the gift of sight, regardless of their economic status or geographical location.

Based in Dibrugarh, Assam, we are a registered charitable trust that has grown from a small local initiative into a beacon of hope for thousands. Our team of committed healthcare professionals and volunteers works relentlessly to bring modern eye care solutions to the doorsteps of rural communities.

project vision:
DATA MEETS COMPASSION

In the remote villages of Northeast India, where healthcare access often feels like a distant dream, Project Vision emerged as a beacon of hope in 2019. This pioneering initiative, born from the partnership between Drishti Foundation and Drishti Netralaya, brings advanced eye care directly to those who need it most – completely free of charge.

Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Uday Agarwalla, Project Vision has revolutionized community eye care through data-driven decision-making. By harnessing the power of analytics, we identify underserved areas, optimize our resources, and ensure that our services reach those most in need. This innovative approach has transformed how we deliver care, making every camp more effective and every intervention more impactful.

We are mainly targeting  Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur in Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh with a mission to make vision care reach areas lacking vision care professionals and facilities.  Our fully trained teams conduct free camps on a daily basis  and screen patients for Refractive Errors, Cataract, Cornea, Oculoplasty, Diabetic Retinopathy. Those patients diagnosed with a cataract or requiring laser to treat diabetic eyes are  where they are operated.

A Vision of Hope

Every morning, as the sun rises over the tea gardens of Assam and the hills of Arunachal Pradesh, our dedicated teams set out on a mission. They traverse challenging terrains, cross mighty rivers, and reach communities where specialized healthcare has never ventured before. Their purpose? To ensure that no one loses their sight simply because they live too far from a hospital.

BEYOND TREATMENT

Project Vision isn't just about treating eye conditions – it's about restoring dreams. When we remove a cataract, we're not just clearing clouded vision; we're helping a grandparent see their grandchild's smile again. When we correct refractive errors, we're not just sharpening vision; we're enabling a child to read, learn, and chase their ambitions.

VISION ON WHEELS:
Taking Eye Care to the Last Mile

Imagine a fully equipped eye clinic that travels through winding mountain roads, crosses flowing rivers, and navigates narrow village paths – all to bring sight to those who need it most. This isn't just a dream; it's our Vision on Wheels program, made possible through the generous support of Sewa USA and Saksham Seva.

In the heart of Northeast, where the nearest eye clinic can be hundreds of kilometers away, this clinic-on-wheels transforms into a complete eye care center within minutes of arriving at a village, bringing advanced medical care to doorsteps where healthcare has never reached before. Our dedicated paramedic staff conducts thorough initial screenings, ensuring that every patient receives the attention they deserve. Leveraging the power of tele-ophthalmology, we connect our paramedics with skilled ophthalmologists who remotely review patient reports. This seamless integration of technology enables swift diagnosis and immediate treatment recommendations, eliminating the need for patients to endure long and arduous journeys to urban centers.

Thanks to the unwavering support of Sewa USA and Saksham Foundation, our wheels keep turning, reaching more villages, touching more lives. But there are still many communities waiting for their turn to see clearly.

Join us in our mission to bring clarity and vision to every corner of our communities. Together, we can make a brighter future for all.

"When the hospital cannot come to the village, we bring the hospital to the village. Because everyone deserves the gift of sight, no matter where they live."

The fight against blindness is not one fought alone but with unity, persistence, and a collective dedication to ensuring that sight, one of the most precious gifts, is accessible to all. It relies on the collective support and collaboration of a wide range of stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, and various local partners and individuals.

We are fortunate and grateful to have received support and collaboration from our partners who have been instrumental in preventing blindness, providing essential care, and ensuring a brighter future for individuals and communities affected by vision impairment. With continued dedication and cooperation, we can aspire to a world where blindness becomes a preventable and treatable condition, offering hope and sight to those in need.

Together, we have and will continue making strides towards reducing the prevalence of blindness, expanding access to quality eye care, and ultimately improving the lives of individuals and communities affected by visual impairment. This collaborative spirit and shared commitment are what fuel the movement to eradicate blindness.
